Adagio expands European footprint in 2023

Accor’s extended-stay brand Adagio is set for expansion this year with plans to open 11 new properties across Europe and the Ivory Coast.

The move follows Adagio’s rebrand earlier this year, which unveiled a “contemporary and vibrant” look and feel.

Adagio chief development and projects officer, Thomas Lamson, said since its inception in 2007, the brand has “largely consolidated its position” as a market leader in the serviced apartment sector, and last year reported “enormous overall performance” that was “well above” 2019 levels.

In addition to the 11 planned openings, Lamson said the company will this year also introduce a new co-living concept and a new three-star concept, known as ‘Adagio Access’.

In the first quarter, Adagio plans to open four properties in Belgium and France.

In Belgium, Adagio Original Antwerp City Centre will feature 100 studios as part of a mixed use complex, while Adagio Original Gent – Centrum Dampoort will have 98 apartments and studios and will be “a vibrant meeting place” for guests and residents.

In France, Adagio Access Montpellier Centre Comédie will offer 39 apartments in collaboration with a three-star hotel, while Adagio Access Lyon, Comfort Suites Rive Gauche will have 78 studios and apartments in the university district.

In the second quarter and third quarters an additional two properties will open in France – Adagio Original Toulouse – La Grave with 114 two-bedroom flats and studios, and Adagio Original Boulogne – Billiancourt, with 101 apartments – as well as the 100-room Adagio Original Abidjan Marcory in the Ivory Coast.

Between November and December, four more hotels are planned across Italy, France, the UK and Germany.

Adagio Access Rome Colombo will offer 106 studios and flats and a hybrid common area for “relaxed working and meeting”.

Adagio Access Rouen – Centre in France will offer 75 studios as part of a combined project by Adagio and Novotel, while in the UK, Adagio Original London Whitechapel will house 147 studios and flats, including co-living flats designed to accommodate larger groups travelling together for either business or leisure.

In Germany, Adagio Original Heidelberg (pictured) will include 162 studios and flats offering a ‘smart house concept’ designed by INNOCAD Architecture, which will become the Adagio Original flagship in Europe.
