Sandown betting tips

Boosted Double: Personal Ambition and Stay Away Fay both to win –now 12/1!

1.15: Hudson De Grugy to place 11/8 (2pts)

Hudson De Grugy is somewhat of a course specialist at Sandown with eight runs and four wins at this track, over 2m and 2m4f.

He won here in Grade 3 company just a few months ago but pulled up a month later and subsequently whisked away for a quick wind op to help fix his apparent breathing issues that surfaced here in April.

He was fourth behind Solo, Git Maker and Mumbo Jumbo in November last year but that form has worked out well and he’s of huge interest here dropping back down to 2m.

1.50: Personal Ambition 5/1 (1pt)

Has a great chance to win based on his latest performance beating the odds-on favourite Jingko Blue.

Both of them weren’t as fluent as they’d prefer to be which isn’t too surprising with horses making their jumps debuts.

Jingko Blue went on to win at Newbury last weekend in the Class 3 Novices’ Hurdle, beating Masaccio which is great form for this horse if proving that was no fluke.

Certainly worth taking the risk on after winning at 12/1 last time, which also came on soft ground, and all these runners are set to improve second time out.

2.25: Stay Away Fay 6/5 (NAP – 3pts)

Stay Away Fay rallied to win from behind last time out and that form has also worked out nicely, as Grey Dawning in second went on to win by over nine lengths to Gaillard Du Mesnil at Haydock in the Graduation Chase.

However, this six-year-old gelding Stay Away Fay was only over fences for the first time last time out and must have more to offer for his second attempt.

It also bodes well that he’s placed first, second and a close fourth on his four runs over 3m, making him still quite unexposed.

He escapes a rise in the weights but he’s set to go up considerably if winning again for the top trainer Paul Nicholls.

The trainer’s runners go well here – over the last five seasons Nicholls has won 33 from 145 runners.

3.00: Midnight Mary 8/1 each-way (1pt)

Probably one of the most appealing each-way horses in this for trainer Lucy Wadham.

This mare has placed with great efforts in recent runs over 3m+ and last won in January on soft ground.

Conditions set to suit with her stamina putting her in good contention, even if just for place money.

Huelgoat is of massive interest stepping up in trip for trainer Nicholls, so has to be watched in the market, if he goes below 4/1 it wouldn’t be a bad shout to cover the bases and stick 1pt on a single.

3.35: Classic Anthem 15/2 each-way (1pt)

West End Boy is a 9/2 shot for this race having initially been an intended runner at Wincanton on Thursday, but the meeting was abandoned.

He was a 2pts NAP in fact and has to remain of interest here, but does come up against some stronger rivals.

Trainer Nicky Henderson is looking to have a very busy Tingle Creek Festival with multiple big runners across the two days, and Immortal could be a big winner at 5/2 on the final race of the Friday.

But at the chance of taking this price when it seems too high, Classic Anthem at 15/2 can’t be passed up, with his previous form being boosted from the 1.50.

He wasn’t far away from Southoftheborder, and if that horse goes well in the Grade 2 earlier on, Classic Anthem will likely be hammered in further from a big each-way price to around joint-favourites at the 3/1 mark.

He went off for a wind op just a couple of days after that first run of the season though, so must be back in with a decent chance here.
