Mamelodi Sundowns defender Aubrey Modiba has revealed he desires to play overseas.
The 28-year-old has been on form for both club and country this past season. Speaking to FARPost, the Bafana Bafana left-back said he was not giving up on his dream to play overseas. His teammates Teboho Mokoena and Khuliso Mudau are set to leave Masandawana in the next few weeks.
Modiba has won four titles with Mamelodi Sundowns and a move abroad makes sense. At the age of 28, the former SuperSport United star know it’s now or never.
“Of course, it’s every player’s dream to play abroad. I think age might not be on my side, but you can’t give up,” Modiba told FARPost.
“Anything can happen, and if it’s a good offer and good for everyone, I think it’s everybody’s dream to play abroad.
“I don’t know anything about. It’s actually news to me. But no one has said anything to me,” the Mamelodi Sundowns man added.
“My focus is on Sundowns and continuing where we left off. Probably help the team as much as I can, so yeah, I know anything about that.”
Mamelodi Sundowns have had a number of players leaving at their peak in recent years. Stars such as Percy Tau, Keagan Dolly and Bongani Zungu all left the Tshwane team at their finest. Mokoena and Mudau are already assessed by European teams.
Modiba has had a good Africa Cup of Nations and if there was a time to make a move, it’s probably now. His contract with Mamelodi Sundowns expires in 2027.
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has said in the past the club was not willing to sell their players. Having dominated the league for almost a decade, Masandawana have always brought in new players without replacing many of their top stats.
