Sheffield United vs Liverpool predictions
Liverpool made things harder for themselves than they needed to on Sunday.
After taking a 1-0 and then a 2-1 lead in the first half against Fulham, the Reds were widely expected to cruise to a ninth victory of the campaign.
Instead, Marco Silva’s men continued to make life difficult for Liverpool. A 2-1 deficit became a 3-2 lead for the visitors, leaving Jurgen Klopp’s side facing the prospect of a first Premier League defeat at Anfield since October 2022.
However, late strikes from Wataru Endo and Trent Alexander-Arnold gave Liverpool their third lead of the afternoon at the death, ensuring they maintained their 100 percent home record this term.
Klopp will hope for a more straightforward victory on Wednesday night, although there were still positives to take from the topsy-turvy game against Fulham.
All four Liverpool goals were excellent. Alexander-Arnold was responsible for two of them and the England international is playing at a very high level right now.
It was another game in which summer signings Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai all played together as Liverpool continue to search for the right midfield balance.
More broadly, the Reds managed to score four times despite the fact that none of their attacking players found the back of the net. Indeed, Mohamed Salah was pretty quiet and Darwin Nunez delivered another frustrating display.
Only Manchester City and Aston Villa have scored more goals than Liverpool ahead of gameweek 15.
The key now is for Klopp’s team to tighten up defensively. There is still room for improvement at Anfield even though Liverpool are just two points off top spot in the Premier League.
📝 Sheffield United vs Liverpool betting tips
Sheffield United are really struggling and Liverpool should pick up all three points on this trip to Bramall Lane.
Liverpool to win both halves – 5/4 (bet365)
On Monday Paul Heckingbottom ‘won’ the dreaded sack race, becoming the first Premier League manager to lose his job this season.
It was no surprise to see Sheffield United make the change. The Blades are rooted to the foot of the table after taking only five points from the first 42 available.
The final straw was a 5-0 demolition by fellow promoted club Burnley on Saturday. Considered a must-win game by the Sheffield United board, Heckingbottom’s team were well beaten at Turf Moor. They fell behind after 15 seconds and things only got worse from there.

It is hard to not feel sorry for the 46-year-old, who got United out of the Championship last season and then lost several key players during a difficult summer.
But results are king in football and United have been poor, scoring the fewest goals in the division and conceding the most.
Chris Wilder looks set to return to the Bramall Lane dugout but we should not expect any sort of immediate improvement, so Liverpool should prove too strong in midweek.
Liverpool to score over 2.5 goals – 8/13 (bet365)
Manchester City and Aston Villa may have more goals to their name, but Liverpool are the Premier League leaders when it comes to creating chances.
The Reds sit top of the expected goals table after 14 games. They are also averaging the most shots per match with 17.9 and the most attempts from inside the penalty area with 9.5 per 90 minutes.
Perhaps that is no surprise when you consider how well stocked Liverpool are in forward areas. Diogo Jota is currently out injured, but Klopp still has Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz fighting for the two remaining spots alongside Mohamed Salah, a guaranteed pick whenever he is fit.
In some ways, then, this is the Premier League’s strongest attack against its weakest defence – irresistible force vs movable object, if you will.
With that in mind, Liverpool will fancy their chances of scoring a fair few at Bramall Lane, where Sheffield United’s backline has been breached 19 times in seven matches to date.
Darwin Nunez to score any time – 10/11 (bet365)
It is by no means certain that Nunez will start on Wednesday. The Uruguay international has been in the XI on a regular basis of late, but he has only one goal involvement – an assist in the 3-0 victory over Brentford – in his last six appearances in all competitions.
Klopp may feel it is time to give Cody Gakpo another go through the middle, but Nunez could be saved by the probable tactical shape of this meeting with Sheffield United.
The home team will spend the majority of this match without the ball. They will sit deep in a bid to frustrate Liverpool, much like they did in a slender 2-1 home loss to Manchester City a few months back.
Nunez provides more of a penalty-box presence than Gakpo, so that should be enough for him to keep his place in the team.
The striker will be desperate to bring his recent dry patch to an end and he looks like decent value to make the net ripple on Wednesday.
